14th November 2009
Windsurfing: Portland Harbour,Weymouth
Wind Direction: ssw then sw
Wind Stength: 40 to 60 mph
Surf / Sea State: wild
Air Temperature: 14
Sea Temperature: 14
Weather: everything !!!
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

The trip started well enough with a rainbow over our house in Felixstowe as we leave for portland at 5 in the evening.Arrive at Weymouth to gale force winds and torrential rain !!! ( having stopped at Fleet services for a great christmas dinner for £6.99 - the highlight of the weekend) We end up camping for the night behind the Sailing acadamy and it was wild the the van being blown about all night !! We move on at about 8.30 as lots of dinghys arrive to race - LOL. By this time several speedsailers setting up in the bottom corner as the wind is ssw and this is the best for flat water.I could not park here as it is too windy to get the gear off the roof of the van with winds between 40 and 60 mph !!! Go and get a paper then discover you can park in the Acadamy and launch from their slipway,we could park behind some boats but still need a hand to get gear off.By this time I had fallen over a low fence and hurt my wrist so not a good start :( Start rigging my new x-15 5.2 to find my extension is too long for the mast !! So after speaking to several sailers who say the conditions are horrendous we go to Windtec for a new extension then as the conditions were supposed to ease we go and look at Portland Bill and the sea was massive !!! So back at the harbour decide to give ago as a few are making down the course including Nick Dempsey. It was a real struggle getting my gear into the water and waterstaring was next to impossible !! So I walk in the water to the start of the course and watch it for awhile but decide not to risk it as I did not want to go through my new sail and I have never sailed my speedboard before !!! So walk back to the slipway and need a hand to get out of the water !!! NicK Dempsey by this time is on a 4m wavesail and was still getting flattened so I call it a day and pack up :( We drive around to the far end of the harbour as the wind had come round to sw and afew were out sailing ,I make the mistake of opening the door to take some pics and the wind nearly takes my door off!!! so thats another £400+ repair bill and we have only just paid the last one :( By now I am mega depressed ,no sailing, knackered van and every joint in my body buggered (no fun getting old) we decide the call it a day and head over to Southampton to visit Rob and Maddy(great to see them) but after watching Engand v Brazil ( god football is a waste of time) and x facter (I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than watch that rubbish again) my mood was even blacker !!!!
Sunday dawned calm and sunny which lightned my mood a little and by Monday even better considering they had a mega day at Weymouth today - thats sods law !!! and no van for a week as it's being repaired :( so not one of our better weekends away but Portland is a great place to learn to sail a speedboard so I will be back !!!
